Alaskan town’s car-launching games are better than fireworks

How did you celebrate Independence Day? Barbecued? Pool party? Fireworks? Glacier View, AK does it better, because instead of cheap, Chinese-made fireworks and burnt hotdogs, it catapults cars off a cliff while cooking over 500 pounds of pork, chicken, and beef. It’s exactly as entertaining as it sounds.

The Alaska Dispatch News ventured out to Glacier View, just over 100 miles northeast of Anchorage, to experience the annual event. While Glacier View has been throwing a Fourth of July party since 1996, this is only the 11th year where residents launched cars from the mountaintop. This year’s lineup included four vehicles, but as you’ll see in the video, only three successfully went airborne. And as for that food, there were around 550 people on hand this year – yes, that’s almost a pound of meat per person. God bless America.

Take a look at the video from the
Dispatch News. And try to think about the fun Glacier View is having the next time the local municipal fireworks display bores you.
