Ferrari 458 GT2 race car
The Ferrari 458 Italia, despite its propensity to burst into flame, is one of our favorite cars of all time for a multitude of reasons. The new GT2 racing variant spotted today just builds on what makes the production car great.
Shod in three-piece racin wheels, wearing a lot more frontal ventilation, new Naca ducts all around, and yellow endurance-racing headlights, plus the usual racing aerodynamics treatment, the Ferrari 458 GT2 is an impressive beastie.
Power is restricted to just 470 horsepower–100 under the production Italia’s–due to class rules, and is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed paddle-shift gearbox. Weight is also regulated, at a minimum of 2,745 pounds.
We like the look of this car even more than the recently unveiled 458 Challenge race car, and look forward to seeing it take to the track in next year’s Le Mans GT2 racing. Perhaps it will even come stateside for some of the International Le Mans Championship points.
