Le Mans is to endurance racing, the
IndyCar Series is inexorably tied to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If only the series could come home to its birthplace more than once a year.
Well, that just might happen as soon as next season. While running on the banked oval twice in the same season (like Indy Lights did from 2005-2007) might not be the best option, series organizers are reportedly considering including a second race at Indy for next season on the infield road course – the setup which
Formula One used for the United States
Grand Prix between 2000 and 2007 and which
MotoGP used this past weekend.
Word has it that one or more teams will run a test on the Indy road course sometime next month in both the clockwise (
F1) and counter-clockwise (MotoGP) direction. From there, series organizers will evaluate whether it’d be suitable for a race next season.
