Lamborghini’s Aventador LP700-4 Hits (Almost) 220 MPH: Video

Lamborghini claims its latest supercar, the Aventador LP700-4, can hit a top speed of 217 miles per hour, or 350 kilometers per hour. On the way to this maximum velocity, it will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds and 124 mph (200 kn/h) in 8.8 seconds, which is about the time it takes the average family sedan to hit the 60 mile per hour mark.

As this Sport Auto video shows, the Aventador is plenty fast around the Hockenheim short course, too. In fact, its 1:08.6 time ties the Porsche Carerra GT and beats the McLaren MP4-12C (1:08.7), losing only to the 1:08.4 lap set by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

The top speed test is equally impressive. The Aventador’s speedometer climbs to an indicated 370 km/h, which translates to 229.9 miles per hour. To account for speedometer error, Sport Auto also measured the car’s top speed via GPS, obtaining a value of 354 km/h (219.96 mph).

I’m not sure what’s more impressive, the fact that the new Aventador will hit nearly 220 miles per hour (assuming you can find the room to stretch its legs), or the fact that at the top end of the speedometer, the Aventador only has around a 4.5 percent error between indicated speed and actual speed.

It’s good to know that for an asking price of around $387,000, you’re getting your money’s worth.
