U.S. Marshals To Auction Huge Seized Car Collection In Salt Lake City

Usually the best car auctions are held in Scottsdale or Las Vegas with names like Mecum and Barrett-Jackson behind them. But the auction of this collection of 240 classic and collector cars will be sold in Salt Lake City, by the firm of Erkelens & Olson.

The cars were seized by the U.S. Marshals from an unnamed person indicted for running a Ponzi scheme. Previously scattered throughout Utah, the cars are now gathered into one place, and it’s quite an odd assortment to see together.

The cars range from a twin-turbo Acura NSX to the obligatory De Lorean plus various qualities of fiberglass kit car replicas–even a hideous bright orange fiberglass Lamborghini kit on a Fiero chassis. But there are a few winners among the group, including a 1967 Camaro SS, a well-kept Plymouth Barracuda, a pair of De Tomasos, many classic American cars and trucks and even a 1991 Nissan Figaro, for those that like quirky little right-hand-drive cars.

Rat rods, replicas, and the odd Bentley Turbo R round out most of the rest of the fleet. If you’ve got a hankering to get yourself some con-artist cruisers, though, this seems like a great opportunity. The auction will be held January 7 in Woodscross, Utah. You can see the whole fleet at the link to the auction site below.
