VW to show tiny T-Cross, a Juke and CX-3 rival, at Geneva

Volkswagen reportedly has a
Polo-based
crossover concept called the T-Cross ready for the
Geneva Motor Show in March. The model would challenge the
Mazda CX-3 and
Nissan Juke in the compact crossover fight. An anonymous «high-placed manager» within
VW tells
Autocar production for the T-Cross could begin as soon as 2018.

The T-Cross’ styling would share cues with 2014’s Golf-based
T-Roc concept (pictured above), so expect styling touches like a wide grille and exaggerated fenders. Both
CUVs ride on the MQB platform, but the upcoming concept would be a smaller vehicle than its sibling.

VW Group CEO Matthias Müller wants both crossovers on sale as soon as possible to take advantage of the strong market. «We will position production versions of the T-Cross and T-Roc underneath the
Tiguan and
Touareg in a part of the market that is currently experiencing large growth for SUV models, including Europe,» the anonymous manger said to
Autocar.

VW’s current US crossover lineup only consists of the Touareg and Tiguan, which means the German brand lacks a compact entry to take on popular models like the
Buick Encore. Some reports suggest VW could fill out its crossover lineup to
as many as six vehicles in the coming years, including multiple variants of the Tiguan and
a five-door T-Roc.
